Gahanna, Ohio mourns and honors Frank Delano Duff Jr.’s passing at age 66 on September 19, 2021. Born April 20, 1955 to Peggy Doolittle and Frank Sr. in Beckley WV, his early years were marked by strong family ties as he embarked upon his lifetime of selfless service to others.
Frank began his journey in Gahanna, Ohio where he attended Gahanna-Lincoln High School. It was here where his character took shape – showing resilience, compassion, and a strong sense of duty. Following high school he joined his father at Duff’s Auto Care to build upon both skills and work ethic, but ultimately it was serving others that defined his journey forward.
A Life of Service
Frank was driven by his desire to serve others, which ultimately led him into a 26-year career at Columbus Fire Department’s Stations 10, 2, and 17. His dedication and impactful contribution can be seen by their tireless service to others.
Frank wasn’t just a firefighter – he was more. His sense of teamwork was contagious, encouraging camaraderie within the department that went far beyond just fulfilling duty.
Beyond the Call
Frank went beyond the call in his service to others. As an active member of New Life Church, where he found spiritual comfort and strength. Participation in their Bible Study group brought joy and spiritual growth; an evidence of his commitment to living a meaningful and faith-filled life.
Frank’s passion for nature could be seen through his hobbies. A dedicated hiker and biker, he found serenity and rejuvenation from nature’s soothing landscapes. His frequent trips to the Smoky Mountains weren’t simply vacations – they allowed him to immerse himself in its beauty and tranquility.
A Legacy of Love
Frank left behind an extraordinary legacy, one which will live on through his family, especially Mindy Duff, Sarah (Jamie) Duncan, Kaitlyn Duff, Shannon Duff and their mothers Valerie Duff and Debra Wintermute. Valerie VanHorn and Bryan Weber along with Marie (Ed) Pack and his beloved great-grandson Gunner Anderson all hold his memory dearly.

Please join them as they celebrate and remember this incredibly inspiring individual whose legacy will live on in all who knew him.
